| 14 & Under State - Lots of fast swimming | |
|
Mar 6, 2012 |
There have only been a handful of meets where the only question we had before a race was how fast are we going to swim this time. 14 & Under State was one of those meets. Here are a few of the highlights:
· Elizabeth Brewer was a key to two successful relays and gave 100% in both her swims. After the High School Metro Meet, High School State, the CMA Last Chance meet, Silver State, and then 14 & Under state on 5 consecutive weekends; we finally saw Elizabeth not go a best time. Her positive attitude and commitment were unwavering the entire weekend (and the past 5 weekends). She had a fantastic short course season and look forward to her building off her success.
· Daniel Carr is special and his future is bright. He went a personal best time in prelims in all 7 events and then came back and went all personal best times at finals (that’s 14 new personal best times). He broke team records in every event he swam (click here to see the list). His time in the 100 Breaststroke is the 21st fastest time in the country right now for 13 year-old boys! He finished top 3 in three events (100 Breast, 200 Breast, and 200 Back) with most of the swimmers finishing above him being 14 years-old. He now has 6 zone times! Perhaps the most exciting aspect of his swimming is not that he is improving so much, but that he’s improving at such a faster rate than his peers. We can’t wait to see what Long Course state and then a whole year as a 14 year-old brings
· Matt DePeppe swam 7 events (the max allowed) and went 6 personal best times. He placed 17th in the 400 IM, 12th in the 100 Breast, and 10th in the 200 Breast. He dropped 10.23 seconds in the 400 IM, 2.10 seconds in the 100 IM, and 2.46 seconds in the 200 Breast. Matt is improving the right way (by swimming smooth and with great technique) and we know his best swimming is still ahead of him. Matt broke Daniel Carr’s 11-12 200 Breaststroke team record (click here to see the complete list).
· Ali Sullivan was entered in two events (the 50 Fly and 100 Fly) but only swam the 100 Fly due to an illness. We are all proud of Ali for her hard work this season and it happy to see it pay off. Last year she only had three Silver State times, this year she had 7 and two State times! Great season Ali!
· Maggie Tibbitt swam 7 events and also went a personal best time in every event in prelims and then again in finals. She now has four zone times and will be joining Daniel Carr on the Colorado Swimming Zone team this summer. Perhaps the only thing more exciting than watching Maggie go a best time in every event was watching how smooth she was swimming while doing it and knowing her best swimming is still ahead of her. Maggie placed in the top five in four of her events and set a team record in all seven of her events (click here to see the complete list).
· Maggie York swam two events and went a personal best time in both of them. She was .20 off the team record in the 50 Free and about 1 second in the 100 Free, but she’s only 13 and has a whole year to go in the age-group. There are no signs she’s slowing down anytime soon. Maggie was also a key part of two relays and will be in the future.
· Maren York swam on both relays with Elizabeth, Maggie and Maggie. We expect to see her swimming individual events at this meet next year!
Great job CMA – enjoy your time off.
